The Nation is a leader in the publishing industry. Its news and analyses reach audiences globally, and that’s one of the core reasons why having a flexible platform to accommodate their consistently changing content publishing needs is so critical.
Fortunately, they gave us the opportunity in 2010 to help them grow online by building them an enterprise, open-source publishing platform on Drupal -- and, in taking it a step further, we integrated our own distribution called OpenPublish.
(OpenPublish is a powerful news management platform we launched in 2009 that enables editors to quickly publish content; handles syndication, engagement, and monetization; and integrates with third-party tools like OpenCalais, Apture, and Ad.ly.)
Today, thanks to their new Drupal infrastructure and its accompanying elegant interface, the folks behind The Nation are able to customize, extend, and create exceptional experiences for their users.
For example, we designed a slate of section-front pages with different layouts that administrators can select based on the type of news day they’re having. And, at the highest level, they can even also change the homepage to show the lead story off of a section-front. Integrations with this effort were key -- both in terms of its existing subscription base and in capitalizing on new marketing opportunities to reach potential subscribers, too.
So, our development, user experience, design, and engineering teams worked with The Nation to:
