TakePart Launches Drupal Platform for Social Action
For Immediate Release – Alexandria, VA. TakePart, the digital division of Participant Media, launched a Drupal platform for improving social action and making positive social change in everyday lives. Built in Drupal 7 using the online publishing tool OpenPublish, the enterprise platform features soon to be released functionality from OpenPublish 3.0 including drag and drop templates, which dramatically simplify the content publishing process.
With a primary goal of improving positive social change, the platform enables a high level of content recirculation to map connections between articles, campaigns and groups. TakePart’s platform improvements create a powerful channel to original articles, videos and campaigns that inspire people to get involved.
The Drupal 7 upgrade allows TakePart to eliminate barriers for publishing information while more easily incorporating media and film, which play a core role in their social action work with partners.
“We’re proud to be working with TakePart on the development of an enterprise solution to meet their needs, their partners’ needs and Participant Media’s needs,” said Jeff Walpole, Phase2 Technology CEO. “Again, we’ve been able to demonstrate that open source solutions, particularly Drupal, provide the enterprise-scale capabilities that are needed by leading media and social action organizations like TakePart.”
“The new platform will allow us to both hand curate content and actions specific to a particular cause, and automatically relate actions and content based upon related causes and issues,” stated Stephanie Shipper, VP Technology, Digital Strategy. “This will allow us to create highly customized campaigns and maintain a depth and breadth of issue related content and actions.“
TakePart has a very rich ecosystem of related content with social action campaigns like The Cove and The Help that are inspired by and driven by films, and hundreds of social action partners. These campaigns, actions, related content and partners can now be surfaced and showcased to the end-user in innovative ways, on the fly, through the CMS. With the new multipage campaign functionality TakePart can now put content creation truly in the hands of the people closest to the campaigns instead of relying on tech to build out new campaigns. Non-technical producers can create multipage campaigns with their own sub menus and essentially create mini-web sites on the fly.
