Phase2 Technology Acquires Open Atrium from Development Seed
Today Phase2 Technology announces the acquisition of Open Atrium and Managing News -- two open source products based upon Drupal developed by Washington, DC-based Development Seed.
Development Seed is a leader in open source research and development initiatives in the international development arena, and originally developed Open Atrium as a team portal solution. Phase2 is a leader in the development of Drupal-based distributions for government and publishing clients, which includes OpenPublic and OpenPublish. The purchase of Open Atrium complements the suite of products Phase2 has developed internally and services it provides to enterprise level clients in government, publishing and non-profit communities.
“Our partnership is a great example of the culture of innovation the open source ecosystem creates because we can work together using our strengths -- Development Seed’s efforts in R&D in open source software and our focus on engineering solutions to serve our clients and the open source community,” stated Jeff Walpole, CEO, Phase2 Technology.
Open Atrium is a team collaboration solution designed specifically to make great teams communicate better. A completely customizable team portal in a box, Open Atrium comes standard with a blog, a wiki, a calendar, a to do list, a shoutbox, and a dashboard to manage it all.
Development Seed President Eric Gundersen commented on the sale, "This deal will take our Drupal work to a wider market and opens up key investment resources for Development Seed's core team to make new plays."
Phase2 also purchased Managing News, a news and data aggregation engine with pluggable visualization and workflow tools.
