Eric Johnson

Project Manager

When Eric Johnson, project manager with Phase2, was younger, he never imagined that he would end up working with computers. However, he’s spent almost the entirety of his working life either building or leading teams that build web sites. These days Eric enjoys the satisfaction that comes from helping clients launch a site that meet their challenging requirements and he's pleased to be using open-source tools in the process.

Eric considers open source his first love since the first several years of his online working life was spent on Linux-based web servers. When leading projects, Eric believes in “strategic resolve and tactical flexibility”: adjusting the team’s approach when the unexpected happens, as it always does, while still driving toward the main objectives.

Eric has worked with and for a wide variety of public- and private-sector clients, including the U.S. Department of State, The Washington Times, United Press International, The World Bank, The Advisory Board Company, and the U.S. Agency for International Development. His counterparts have appreciated his thoughtful and consultative approach, and he is always ready to offer ideas about how to improve different aspects of their online operations.

Eric has an M.A. in English from George Mason University, and a B.A. in History from James Madison University. His master's thesis project,Open Source Shakespeare, is one of the most popular Shakespeare texts sites on the Web, attracting over 2.3 million unique visitors in the last five years. He has served on the board of advisors for GMU's College of Humanities and Social Sciences since 2009, and is an active member of the Shakespeare Association of America. In 2008, he earned his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Eric also served in the U.S. Marine Reserve for 13 years, and is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He lives with his family in Alexandria.
